Sample Description
This sample of lichen was collected from Lime Creek in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado (37 degrees 41 minutes N latitude; 107 degrees 45 minutes W Longitude). The spectrum was measured in the laboratory under a tungsten lamp (directly overhead) with the bare fiber optic head of the ASD FR spectrometer pointed at an approximately 20 degrees off of nadir. Species identification was made by USGS Biologist Larry Gough. The appearance of the young lichen was noted as "sea green with some dark green" in color with small thallus, no stalks or spores. The measurement of the lichen was made with it still in place on the surface of a rock (Sample ID = SJ96-7).
