Sample Description
Weathered oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill coating marsh plants. The oil-coated plants were collected on July 8, 2010, in an amber glass jar and stored on ice until spectral measurements were made in the laboratory on July 11, 2010. The spectrum is an average of 10 measurements made of oil-coated leaves of Phragmites australis. The reflectance spectrum has absorption features centered near 1.72 and 2.30 microns arising from C-H bonds in weathered oil.
