Red algae coating rocks under about 10cm in the Arkansas River 100 meters downstream from the confluence with California Gulch which drains heavily mined area with abundant acid mine drainage runoff. This algae is probably causing the precipitation of secondary Fe-oxides rich in heavy metals.
